HomeFirst

CAPC's Parent Coach (right) models play for program participants.

The home is the first and most important learning environment for children; and parents are their child’s most influential teacher. Our home-based coaching program, HomeFirst, is designed for parents with young children, ages 0-3,  and provides them with guidance to enhance their child’s development.

The program features the nationally-recognized Parents as Teachers (PAT) model. PAT children score higher on kindergarten readiness tests and on standardized measures of achievement in early grades. Parents in PAT are more involved in their children's schooling, read more to their children, and are more confident in their parenting role.

Families participating in our HomeFirst Program receive:
Personal Visits
A minimum of monthly personal visits help parents learn about their child’s development and how to balance family life. Visits are approximately one hour in length; conducted by a certified Parent Educator (i.e. HomeFirst Coach).
Group Meetings
Parents and their children meet periodically at KidsFirst or other community location to share stories, learn about their child’s development and other topics of interest.
Screenings
Participating children (ages 0-3) receive annual health screenings arranged or conducted by your HomeFirst Coach.
Resource & Referral Network
With assistance from your Coach, you can get connected to hundreds of resources in your community.
